Adam Scott, known for his roles in Parks and Recreation and Apple TV+’s hit series Severance, recently shared a rather unusual experience during the filming of the second season of Severance. The 51-year-old actor revealed on Late Night with Seth Meyers that he suffered a concussion during production, which led to an unexpected—and awkward—situation.
“A little while later, I got this nosebleed that would not stop,” Scott recounted on the Jan. 22 episode. “Like, no matter what we did, we could not get my nose to stop bleeding. It was disgusting and frustrating, but also, when there’s an actor who has a nose that will not stop bleeding, obviously, it’s cocaine, right? We all know this.”
Faced with the possibility of his co-stars jumping to the wrong conclusion, Scott admitted he tried a unique tactic to clear the air—by overcompensating with an endless string of cocaine jokes. “I was sort of overcompensating and making way too many cocaine jokes, trying to reassure everyone that it wasn’t cocaine,” he said. However, his efforts backfired as he humorously noted, “For sure, by the end of the day, everyone thought it was cocaine.”
The persistent nosebleed eventually led Scott to seek medical attention at an emergency room in upstate New York. The solution? A procedure to cauterize the inside of his nose. Seth Meyers even showed the audience a photo, taken by Severance director Ben Stiller, of Scott mid-procedure.
While the incident may have been uncomfortable and embarrassing, Scott shared the story with his trademark humor, proving once again why he’s a fan favorite both on and off-screen. And if there’s one thing he can assure us all, it’s that his sense of humor—and not cocaine—is his coping mechanism.
