Amid Joseph Duggar’s arrest over child molestation charges, Jim Bob Duggar has some things to say to his son, via a stern letter. Scolding his son for the “terrible decisions” he’s made, the 60-year-old reminded him that his parents love him.
Joseph Duggar was arrested in Arkansas on March 18 over charges related to the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.
Jim Bob Duggar’s stern but emotional message to son
Jim Bob sent his message to his son via email. The copy of the text obtained by People says, "You have made some terrible decisions, but God has already forgiven you if you have asked him." Telling his son that it’s “fine to pray that God would have mercy on you,” the 60-year-old sternly added, “but you’re probably gonna face major consequences for several years to come.”
However, Joseph Duggar’s father adopted a grave tone in one part of the email and wrote, “Mom & I love you very much! You have a long road ahead of you.”
Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar are heartbroken
Jim Bob was with his son on March 31 as he made his first appearance in a Florida courtroom on the charges of sexually abusing a 9-year-old child in 2020, and was then released on a USD 600,000 bond.
Also, a spokesperson for the Duggar family told the outlet that Jim Bob and Michelle are “heartbroken” over the entire situation.
Joseph’s oldest brother was also convicted of charges involving minors
This uncomfortable situation in the Duggar family has been experienced before, and Joseph is now the second Duggar son to face criminal charges involving alleged underage victims.
According to the aforementioned publication, in 2021, Joseph's eldest brother, Josh, 38, was convicted by a federal jury of receiving and possessing material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Josh, who as a teenager also molested five young women, including four of his sisters, is now serving a 12-year sentence in a Texas prison.
