Mulaney, 42, who was a writer for SNL from 2008 to 2013, played a key role in the night’s festivities. He joined legendary comedian Steve Martin for the opening monologue, receiving loud cheers from the audience.

In true SNL fashion, the duo delivered some sharp and witty banter. Martin, 79, pretended to be surprised by Mulaney’s presence, saying, “I didn’t know you were even gonna be here!” to which Mulaney jokingly responded, “You would if you’d ever come to rehearsal.”

Mulaney also took a playful jab at Martin’s awards history, sarcastically congratulating him on a series of accolades that he did not actually receive, a humorous nod to Martin being overlooked at several awards shows this year.

A Night of Comedy and Celebration

The SNL 50 special brought together a mix of past and present stars, celebrating five decades of legendary sketches, hosts, and comedians. Mulaney’s involvement in the show, along with Munn’s presence in the audience, made for a memorable night for the couple.

While Munn kept a low profile, her attendance was a clear sign of support for Mulaney’s deep connection to the show that helped shape his career. With their shared love of comedy, the night was not just a celebration of SNL—but also a fun and fitting date night for the couple.
