Nancy Guthrie disappearance: FBI reveals fresh suspect clues and key person-of-interest details in the case

Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC’s Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, released new details about a suspect captured on doorbell camera footage at Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson, Arizona home. The 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie vanished from her residence on February 1, 2026, with her home declared a crime scene after police found DNA evidence inside.

Suspect description released

Two days after sharing surveillance images on February 10 showing a masked figure approaching Nancy Guthrie’s door and striking the camera, the FBI provided an updated profile. “New identifying details about the suspect in the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie have been confirmed,” the FBI’s Phoenix office stated on X on February 12, “after a forensic analysis of the doorbell camera footage by the FBI’s Operational Technology Division.” The suspect is a male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build, wearing a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack.


The FBI also doubled the reward to $100,000 for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s location or the arrest and conviction of those involved. On February 10, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department briefly detained a person for questioning but released them hours later.

Investigation updates

Sheriff’s officials confirmed DNA samples collected from Nancy Guthrie’s home. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said during a February 3 NBC interview, “We collected samples that we hope will yield a sufficient DNA profile that will help us identify what we are examining.” Nanos detailed the timeline at a February 5 press conference: “Approximately [a few] hours after [Nancy Guthrie] returned home visiting family at 12:47 a.m., doorbell camera disconnects.”

The FBI arrested California man Derrick Callella for sending hoax ransom texts. FBI agent He Janke stated at a February 5 press conference, “It was someone trying to profit from the situation, a complete imposter,” and noted they are treating a separate ransom letter shared with TMZ “with utmost seriousness.” Callella was released on $20,000 bond. Janke added that the Guthrie family was “still awaiting communication.”

Nancy Guthrie’s children, Savannah Guthrie, Annie Guthrie, and Camron Guthrie, have shared videos pleading for her return. Savannah Guthrie said, “This is incredibly valuable to us, and we will pay.”
