Speaking to USA Today, Weiss said: "My client of over 11 years has passed. Neel was not (only a) great comic (but) a good friend and a fantastic human being."

The announcement of his passing came as a shock as Nanda had recently marked his birthday by headlining a comedy club in Toronto. On Instagram, the comedian had also promoted his show at Jokers Theatre and Comedy Club in Toronto as part of his "birthday weekend." On December 8 he had posted, “I’m Spending my Birthday in Canada this year… This is a Tru Story… See you Soon Toronto @jokers905club Dec 15 & 16.”

The Jokers Theatre and Comedy Club mourned "the loss of a brilliantly funny soul".
