Joan Vassos recently shared her most embarrassing behind-the-scenes moment from The Golden Bachelorette with Entertainment Weekly. Reflecting on her hometown dates, Vassos recounted a particularly awkward situation that didn’t make it into the show’s blooper reel.
During a sweltering day in Kansas with Chock, Vassos explained, “It was honestly like 105 degrees. There was a little bit of a breeze, but it was hot and humid. I had a sundress on, and I had those chicken cutlet things [in my dress]—like, they’re boob pads. I had those on because you can’t have bra straps showing with a sundress.” After hours in the heat, things took an unexpected turn.
“It’s probably three hours into the date, and I’ve just sweated for hours,” she said. “As we stood in front of about 30 people, with Chock talking about ‘how much he adored this journey with me,’ I suddenly felt the boob pad coming unstuck.” Despite her efforts to subtly keep it in place, it slipped down to her stomach and eventually fell to the ground, right by her foot. “There’s no chance nobody saw it,” she said, but luckily, the cameras seemed to miss it too.
“They definitely would’ve shown it if they had caught it, so that was the one I got away with.” In a heartfelt moment, Vassos also revealed a piece of advice that helped her navigate her feelings on the show. “They told me, ‘Picture it like you have a balloon in each hand. One is John, and one is this other person you have feelings for. You don’t have to let go of one to have the other. There’s room in your heart for more than one person.’ That’s exactly what I needed to hear.”
