Ankit Raj: Theatre has given me a lot of confidence to do comedy roles
Actor Ankit Raj, known for his work in television shows like Qubool Hai, Ishqbaaaz and Laado 2 – Veerpur Ki Mardaani, says the current television space lacks stability for actors.
“TV shows are shutting down very soon. There is no consistency of long-term characters or roles that you can work on like earlier,” Ankit says. He adds that this has pushed him to explore other formats. “I’m looking forward to more action and performance-oriented roles. You get to crack such roles more on OTT platforms and in films.”
At present, the actor is experimenting beyond daily soaps. “I’m exploring other platforms. I’m doing music videos and vertical content. These formats are quick to shoot and give you time to work on yourself,” he explains. “Because of that, I can also do theatre on my off days, which I really enjoy.”
Ankit credits theatre for helping him expand his range as a performer. “Theatre has given me a lot of confidence, especially to do comedy roles. I would love to explore that side of my acting more,” he says.
He is also keen on non-fiction formats. “Apart from playing fictional characters, I want to make the audience laugh through stand-up comedy. Shows like The Kapil Sharma Show or Laughter Chefs – Unlimited Entertainment interest me,” Ankit shares. He also reveals his interest in reality television, adding, “I would like to contest shows like Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi.”
Apart from his television work, Ankit has been part of shows like Qayaamat Se Qayaamat Tak, Dharm Yoddha Garud, Main Bhi Ardhangini 2 and Vish Ya Amrit: Sitara. His film credits include Karle Pyaar Karle and Ascharyachakit.
