Bigg Boss 19: Tanya Mittal and Neelam Giri face backlash for body-shaming Ashnoor Kaur; fans say, “Body shaming is a serious issue”
In a recent episode of Bigg Boss 19, contestants Tanya Mittal and Neelam Giri landed in controversy after fans spotted them body-shaming fellow contestant Ashnoor Kaur on the live feed. The two were seen talking about Ashnoor’s weight gain, with Tanya commenting that even after regular gym sessions, Ashnoor had still put on weight. Neelam joined in, saying that despite her daily workouts, Ashnoor’s body didn’t show any difference.
Their conversation went further when they started discussing Ashnoor’s outfit from the Weekend Ka Vaar episode. Both criticised her look, saying the dress didn’t suit her body type. Tanya remarked that if she or Neelam had worn it, it would have looked better. Tanya went on to mock Ashnoor’s face, saying, “Fugge jaisa mooh lekar ghoom rahi hai” (she’s roaming around with a face like a balloon). Amaal added that she looked like an egg, while Neelam commented, “Dadi lag rahi hai” (she looks like a grandmother). Shehbaaz also joined the conversation, saying, “Itni exercise karti hai, moti hi rehti hai” (she works out so much but still looks fat).
This clip soon went viral on social media, leading to massive outrage among viewers. Fans expressed disappointment over Tanya and Neelam’s remarks, accusing them of body-shaming and targeting Ashnoor without any reason. Many pointed out that Ashnoor is only 21 and doesn’t deserve such harsh comments. One user wrote, “Ise kehte hain jab mukabala na kar pao toh burai karna start kar do” (This happens when you can’t compete, so you start speaking badly about others).
Several fans came out in support of Ashnoor, calling her graceful and confident despite facing criticism. Comments like “Ashnoor is the most graceful there” and “She is already insecure about her body, but still walks with confidence. She didn’t say a single bad word about them” flooded X (formerly Twitter).
Viewers also criticised the so-called influencers inside the house. One fan wrote, “So-called spiritual influencer and feminists,” while another said, “Kunika ji says I am a feminist, then why do other girls always body shame Ashnoor? Salman bhai should talk about this. For three days, I’ve seen them talking about her body.”
Many fans praised Ashnoor’s maturity, saying, “She is the most mature girl I have seen in BB history. And those older contestants who have been in the industry for years don’t even show this level of sense. And Amaal and Shehbaaz talking about fitness? Seriously?”
Fans also questioned the makers of the show for not addressing the issue. Comments like, “Body shaming is not content. It’s a serious issue. Makers should take action against them. But instead, they didn’t even show the clip in the episode. Shame on the makers,” summed up the audience’s frustration.
This controversy has added more drama to the Bigg Boss 19 house, which is already filled with changing alliances and conflicts. Earlier, Tanya and Neelam had a fallout over Tanya’s growing closeness with contestant Farrhana Bhatt, leading to accusations of double standards and trust issues between them. Now, their latest remarks have once again put them in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
