Bigg Boss' Jjaan Kumar Sanu on why he has not cracked Bollywood: There is a lot of politics and lobbying
Singer Jjaan Kumar Sanu is set to perform in Mumbai with Aashiqui Experience, a concert that revisits Bollywood’s most memorable romantic songs from the 1980s to the 2000s. Designed as a nostalgic musical journey, the show traces the different stages of a relationship through evergreen love tracks.
“It’s all about love. We’re going to take you on a time-travel journey from the 1980s right up till the 2000s, all through love songs. We’re going to describe the different phases of a relationship — the talking stage, the first meeting, the butterfly phase, dating and even heartbreak,” says Jjaan.
The singer adds that while the concert will feature several iconic songs associated with his father, legendary playback singer Kumar Sanu, the idea is to reinterpret them for a younger audience.
“Of course there will be a lot of my dad’s iconic songs that I’ll be performing, but in my style and sound. I want people to reconnect with the ’90s through this show. We’re bringing back many landmark songs from that era,” he shares. Jjaan, who gained recognition after appearing on Bigg Boss, also spoke candidly about the challenges of building a career in the music industry despite carrying a famous surname. “The journey in Bollywood is not really easy, especially for someone like me who is the son of a renowned singer, because there is a lot of politics and lobbying. But I’m hopeful that someone will recognise my talent. I’m waiting for that life-changing moment that many legendary singers have had before me,” he says.
Reflecting on his journey after reality television, the singer describes it as unpredictable but formative. “Post Bigg Boss, it’s been a roller-coaster journey with a lot of highs and lows. I’ve met some really strange and not-so-genuine people, but I’ve also met some wonderful people along the way. I’ve worked with all kinds of people — some great, some not so great,” he adds.
