Bigg Boss: Sidharth Shukla to Monica Bedi; these celebrities were embroiled in legal cases

Television's most controversial reality show Bigg Boss leaves no stone unturned to shock, surprise and entertain the audience. Every season of Bigg Boss tries to lock in the house, a diverse range of inmates from different walks of life. Many of the celebrities, who were locked in the house, got themselves embroiled in legal cases before entering the show. Take a look:

Balika Vadhu star Sidharth, who is seen in the 13th edition of Bigg Boss, was arrested for rash driving on July 22, 2018. The actor was driving his car at a high speed and suddenly lost control due to which he hit three cars before ramming in the divider. The cops had filed a case under him under section 279, 337 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The actor was released after paying a penalty of Rs 5000.

Bigg Boss 10 fame Swami Om was reportedly accused of hoarding weapons, stealing bicycles and extorting money from women by using obscene photos. Swami, who is accused of stealing expensive parts of bicycles from his brother's shop, has cases against him in the court.

Cricketer Sreesanth was a part of Bigg Boss 12. In 2013, the Delhi police arrested Sreesanth and two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan from Mumbai, on charges of spot-fixing during IPL 6. Sreesanth confessed to spot-fixing, according to police but outside, Sreesanth has always maintained that he is innocent and that he was forced to sign confession statements. Police reported that Sreesanth was drunk at the time of his arrest and thought he was being arrested for being drunk. He was banned for life but later it was reduced to seven years.

Bigg Boss 2’s Monica Bedi was arrested with Abu Salem by the Lisbon police for entering Portugal on forged documents. They served a jail sentence in Portugal. On September 29, 2006, an Indian court convicted Bedi for passport forgery and procuring a passport on a fictitious name. Further, in November 2010, the Supreme Court of India upheld her conviction but reduced the jail term to the period that she had already served.

Rahul Mahajan who was part of Bigg Boss season 2 was once charged for consuming contraband drugs laced with alcohol at his father Pramod Mahajan's residence. However, he was let-off drug trafficking charges and was booked only for consumption of banned drugs. He was then allowed by the court to leave the country along with his newly-wed wife for their honeymoon. Immediately after Rahul Mahajan and Dimpy Mahajan's marriage through a reality show Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega, the couple started making headlines for their not-so-happy married life. Though now both Dimpy and Rahul are divorced and are in a secure marriage with their respective partners, Dimpy had once had filed a complaint against Rahul for beating her up.

Sampat Pal is the founder and leader of a group of women vigilantes in northern Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, called the 'Gulabi gang' or 'pink gang.' Sampat along with her gang has beaten up many public officials, men and those who were involved in domestic violence. In spite of going to jail twice, she continued her efforts to eradicate social injustice against women from this society. She was seen in Bigg Boss 6.

Bigg Boss 4 fame Seema Parihar is a reformed bandit and has a rather colourful criminal record. According to accusations, Seema had looted around 30 houses, murdered approximately 70 people and kidnapped 300 others. She later joined politics and then made her foray in the entertainment industry. Seema Parihar also starred in the film Wounded - The Bandit Queen.

Devender who was one of the contestants in Bigg Boss season 4 had a criminal background. He was accused in a robbery. He was on the hit-list of Delhi police and was a most-wanted criminal in the capital. Devender did not survive in the house for a long time and was evicted soon. A movie, produced by Dibaker Bannerjee, titled Oye Lucky Lucky Oye was loosely based on him.

Aseem Trivedi, an Indian political cartoonist and activist, was a part of Bigg Boss season 6. He was criminally involved as he faced serious allegations of insulting the national emblem, Parliament, flag and constitution through his anti-corruption cartoons. In addition to that, a case of sedition (section 124 A of the Indian Penal Code) was also filed against him. He was arrested in Mumbai on charges of sedition, related to the content of his work.
