CID 2: Dayanand Shetty talks about how 'Daya Darwaza Tod' became iconic; says 'The audience loved it and made it iconic'

CID has returned with the second season and fans have been pouring immense love to the show. Bringing back the nostalgic ride, CID has begun to entertain the fans. In a recent podcast, Dayanand Shetty and Aditya Srivastava got candid about the USP of the show, iconic dialogue Daya Darwaza tod and more.

Aditya's perception on doing TV and Films

As an actor, there aren't many differences technically. But there is pressure on TV as one has to deliver in less time. So the difference would be in budgeting, scheduling and all. Otherwise, as an actor, there are no differences. There is a bound script for films so you get to work on your character as you are aware of the beginning and ending. However, in TV the actor gets stuck between demand and supply. You have to do that 19th scene no matter what. TV actors are alert as well as they need to work on immediate scripts. But if you want to work on your character then there is more fun in films.

Daya on differences in TV and films

There isn't any more or less acting in both fields. When you are working on TV, you are at home. Abhijeet is my friend, if I miss my lines he will manage but you cannot do the same thing in films. The co-artists there would be all renowned, the cameraman would be someone famous so you cannot make any mistakes there. There is this pressure around it. But your effort as an actor doesn't differ. TV is less pressure, quick work and more fun. The film is a big setup, you get to learn filmmaking. Rest all is the same, it is all about the pressure.

How did 'Daya Darwaza Tod' become iconic

Like I said, I am a non-actor but today I am an actor. Many actors have broken doors in films and shows. And if you see this is technically assigned to a constable. I didn't glorify it but it got glorified because of god. The audience loved it and fans have loved 'Daya darwaza tod do' became iconic.

Kareena also said Daya's iconic dialogue

I still remember when in Singham, Rohit sir told me that Ajay would say 'Daya darwaza tod' I was a little dejected that I had done this all these years in CID, now even in the film. But Rohit sir was confident, 'tu dekh seeti bajega.' And I continued with his conviction. When we went to see the film, people were hooting for that scene and it was such a blessing to see such reaction. Hats off to sir for his conviction. In Singham Again, Kareena ji is also saying the dialogue so yes. There isn't anything great in the dialogue, but it turned extraordinary.

Daya: We are all actors not stars or celebs

The USP of CID is that we are all actors here. We are not celebrities or stars, till we don't have that air, we are normal people. We would share our food, would stay together, share our rooms and everything. If you see the new stars, their shows got hit then they demand vanity and have a whole entourage. For us, give us one spot and we are happy. We are ready to share everything. Today also we are actors. That is what sustained CID for 21 years. No artist had any tantrums.

7/7

Daya: Artist can never get bored in CID

CID is such a show where the artist can never get bored. Nothing is monotonous about the show. Because every episode is different, different story, and location and we get to work with different sets of actors on a daily basis. All the seasoned artists in TV must have done at least one episode of CID for sure. So we have worked with many artists on the set. We often come across new and veteran artists, and old ones love to share anecdotes so we all enjoy that.
