Delnaaz Irani reveals she chose peace over alimony after a ‘messy’ divorce from Rajeev Paul; says, “I didn’t take anything”
Popular actress Delnaaz Irani recently opened up about the end of her 14-year-long marriage with ex-husband Rajeev Paul. She also opened up about how she decided not to ask for alimony, saying she valued peace more than going through a legal fight.
In a recent interview with The Male Feminist, The actress spoke about whether social pressure had any impact on her during the divorce. She added that while the divorce was widely announced in newspapers in 2010, her relationship had actually ended much earlier.
Delnaaz said, "Many discussions happened between us as a couple about what’s not working. But in a relationship, people take each other for granted, and probably that happened with me. My partner kept taking me for granted, probably he did not realise that the matter was going to turn serious. There was nothing like divorce in my dictionary. From where I come, a middle-class, Parsi family, my parents were together for so many years, even my nana-nani. We were never exposed to that concept, despite being open-minded and liberal. That does not mean that we would take divorce lightly. The emotional turmoil was a struggle for the longest time.”
She also revealed that she kept the news of her troubled married life hidden from her parents. Recalling the tough phase of her life, she shared that her father suffered a heart attack in 2010 and passed away in 2011.
She further spoke about the alimony in her divorce and said, “I never got anything. The divorce was messy because one person wanted it and the other did not. I chose my peace over everything. You have to pick up the broken pieces and live life again”
Delnaaz and Rajeev Paul got married in 2010 and their divorce was finalised in 2012. They were married for 14 years and decided to part ways reportedly due to differences and conflicts in their relationship. Post their divorce, Delnaaz and Rajev had participated in reality show Bigg Boss 6.
Delnaaz has turned a new chapter in her life and is now in a live-in relationship with her fiancé, DJ Percy.
