We asked actor Romiit Raaj about his fondest memories of Bengali New Year. He has spent 12 years of his life in Kolkata and says,” It's a very special day for me as we have celebrated Bengali new year every time in Kolkata when I was growing up. We wore new clothes like Dhoti Kurta, ate Bengali cuisine like dum aloo, luchi, mutton kosha, dhab chingri, fish curry for lunch with family and friends.

My Father had a business in Kolkata so we had laxmi and ganesh puja in the office in the morning. My grandparents also used to join us.I remember we had an early morning wake up call on Poila Boishakh. We used to wish all our bengali friends Shubo Naboborsho which means Happy New Year.”

Romiit also adds,”I have stayed in Kolkata for only 12 years but those were my growing years from age 10 to 22, Kolkata culture and literature have shaped up my life. There is so much love and warmth in Kolkata - it is truly a City of Joy. Every time I go there as my family and old friends are still there I kind of rejuvenate myself. This Poila Baisakh I will wish my Bengali friends over a call and will also try to eat some delicious Bengali food.”
