Exclusive - Deepika Singh on being trolled for dancing in front of uprooted tree amid cyclone: I don't regret it, just trying to spread positivity through my videos

Deepika Singh explained that she doesn't regret anything and as an actor only wants to spread positivity. Excerpts from the interview:(Photo: Instagram)

On getting trolled for her dance video amid Cyclone Tauktae

I haven't seen any hate comments on my post. 99 percent of the comments I've received are positive. Rest 1 percent bad comments are on all the posts, even on my traditional dance posts, I receive negative comments. That tree fell on my car and five years ago, I had planted that tree in front of my house. Four to five days ago, we were discussing how beautifully this tree has grown and on the cyclone day, it fell. We kept the tree aside so that it doesn't block the road, the car wasn't damaged much. We had even called the person in charge of that area from the BMC to clear it but due to heavy rains, they said they would come later. The cyclone indeed was very scary and my heart goes out to all those affected and my only aim is to plant as many trees as I can. I will not stop spreading positivity, and this is for my well-being and happiness. I don't regret it but, I would definitely request the audience to not step out in the rain, this area is right outside my house. Therefore, I stepped out for 5 minutes.(Photo: Instagram)

Her personal experience of the Cyclone

The shed of my house was shaking because of the storm and we were just worried about it for the whole time. I, too, have suffered losses due to Cyclone Tauktae, I live on the ground floor, parts of my house were puddled with rain water but I did not post videos of it on social media because already there's enough negativity and disturbance in people's lives. We were just praying to stay safe and I was scared that my dancing room would shatter. Imagine, what a scare we must have gone through, I also have small kids at home. Due to some reasons, I was disturbed and therefore, I just danced my heart out for a few minutes, and I felt good because it works as therapy for me. It's all about the perspective towards the situation and life.(Photo: Instagram)

Perspective towards life during pandemic

The times are really tough, and everyone is going through some or the other battle - be it financial or emotional crisis. And, I just pray regularly for the world to be a better place to be able to breathe freely again. Because somebody has lost their father, mother, brother and we are all in this together, prayers are all that we can offer. It's not that I am not surrounded with negativity but I try to release it by dancing it out. A few days ago, one of my family members passed away, months ago, my mother and brother were affected by COVID-19. I have also dealt with pain and trauma. As an actor, I feel it's my duty to spread positivity and entertain the audience in whichever way I can, and I do it through dance, especially during the pandemic. Everybody has a child within, and I love to unleash the child in me. I don't like to get sad and sit, I have to stay strong to take care of my family and the kids.(Photo: Instagram)

On trolls spreading negativity on social media

'Waqt bura hai, hum bure nahi ban sakte' (The time is bad, we can't become bad.) There isn't a single actor who has posted anything and not got trolled. Negativity touches everyone's life, we have to face it with courage and transform ourselves.(Photo: Instagram)

On taking a break from TV

I have taken a break from the television because I have children at home and I feel staying at home is the necessity of the hour. I am staying strong, reading non-fiction books instead of watching series, and dancing, it helps me feel better.(Photo: Instagram)

Documenting memories

I have my Instagram account since 2014 and I like to document everything there as memories. So, even if I look behind after 10 years, I should feel happy seeing how happily I have lived my life and I won't regret it. We have such a hectic life that it's not possible to create a journal everyday, and I prefer posting on Instagram.(Photo: Instagram)

Staying optimistic

The times are such that I don't get sleep at night and there is no motivation to wake up in the morning because there's nowhere to go. I have taken online workout classes to keep myself engaged. Whenever an ambulance passes by, I start praying, and there hasn't been a day where I have skipped my prayers. I try to find reasons to stay optimistic. I pray for everyone to stay safe and healthy.
