Exclusive - Hunarbaaz judge Parineeti Chopra on her emotional side in promos: I can do anything but can’t be fake in life

Bollywood actress Partineeti Chopra, who has been roped in as one of the judges for the reality show 'Hunarbaaz', will be joining Mithun Chakraborty and Karan Johar on the panel of judges. The actress is super excited about her television debut but at the same time, she's nervous. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes TV, the Bollywood diva spoke about why she decided to judge a television show, her family's reaction and her favourite TV show while growing up. I am doing this show to connect with the audience. I belonged to a small city and I’ve seen a different life which is very different from Mumbai’s lifestyle. My mother was raised abroad and I’ve seen that also. I’ve experienced different lifestyles in childhood and that’s the reason I connect to different people. Anybody, I am meeting, I somehow manage to find some connection with them because of my experiences. I always knew whenever I will do television I will be very happy because I like to meet people, hear their stories. I’ve been thinking for a while to do television and be a part of a show but I was not finding the right blend. Now, with Hunarbaaz I’ve got the right balance as it’s a multi-talented show. People from all over India are going to participate. This is what I wanted to do and I am very happy I am doing the show. (Photo: Instagram)

The talent we have seen on Hunarbaaz has surprised, shocked, made us emotional, impressed and inspired us. On this show I've seen these talents coming from small cities or villages and they have been working so hard on their talents without any complaints. They might never get a chance to showcase their talent, they travel 3-4 days to reach Mumbai and show their talents, it’s just amazing. They came on our show and showcased their talent and I will say with full trust and hope that their life will definitely change after getting a platform like this for their talent. Because of this show they will move ahead in life and career and can also look after their family. This is the best part of reality shows. In fact my favourite part of talent reality shows is that people get a chance to showcase their talent and it changes their life. People from different parts of our country come to Mumbai and meet such big superstars, composers, musicians, directors and they get work also and this is a magical world I feel. I am having an amazing time on the show. It is an amazing balancing act for me. I am working with two people who are legendary and seniors, Karan Johar and Mithun da. Karan is one of the leading director-producers of our country, Mithun da has been a leading star, dancing heartthrob, rockstar for so many years and I just look at both of them in awe when I am around them. Working with them, sharing a stage, and having fun is an amazing experience for me. They keep telling me, guiding me about how to go about things. I am an emotional person and I’ve to control a lot while judging the show because each story about the contestants and their talent is so unique and good that I can't hold back my tears. I can do anything but I can’t be fake in life and that’s why I can’t control my emotional side. It shows and in every 2 mins, you’ll see my emotional side because each contestant who has come on the show is so deserving and talented that I get emotional. (Photo: Instagram)

Yes I am nervous about my TV debut. Even on the first day I was very nervous because working on television is a different world. The viewers who watch television are literally connected with the stars and they’ve seen so many shows in their life that their expectations are also very high. And I can guarantee that they will love Hunarbaaz because of the talent on the show. I am dying to know what everyone thinks. (Photo: Instagram)

Yes, the COVID situation does make you nervous and I feel it is good to get nervous because till the time you are nervous you will take all the necessary precautions and you’ll be disciplined. The more focused you are, the more you’ll be safe. Of course as an actor I am worried most of the time because we have to be on the sets for the shoot without the mask and we meet close to 200-300 people while doing a show. We get tensed and worried but the production house and the channel makes sure that all the protocols are followed and we are safe. (Photo: Instagram)

I’ve been a very studious child and I was more interested in studies. I was not allowed to watch TV much. While growing up my focus was studies. But I remember watching a reality show called ‘Popstars’. That show was basically about forming a band and it was a huge hit, a phenomenon. It was a big hit because for the first time, something like this was happening where they were forming a band and auditioning talents. We could see their careers getting made in front of us, I think from there people realised how much talent India has and it should be discovered. Yes, I’ve shared the news with her (Priyanka Chopra). My family is a huge TV buff. They love watching television shows. My family lives in Ambala, a small city after 7-8 pm, the social life is very slow. They love watching television and it is a very big activity and they are very excited that weekends now will be taken over by me.
