Exclusive - Ivanka Das: It's been more than 25 years since I have not celebrated my birthday in a proper way
Actress Ivanka Das, who turns a year older, says that birthdays have never meant big celebrations for her. She says that this year she has decided to keep it low as well. “Nothing special is planned. It's been many years since I have celebrated my birthday. Till the time my parents were alive, they have always celebrated it. It's been more than 25 years since I have not celebrated my birthday in a proper way,” she says.
She adds, “I love getting birthday surprises. Last year, my boyfriend treated me, but this year, things are a bit different and that's okay! I always hope for something special, but it's alright if it doesn't happen. Another year has passed. It feels quite ordinary. Today also, I feel I am a child at heart. I have given birthday parties many times. The year has gone by quickly. I've had instances where parties didn't go as planned, and I didn't enjoy them much. But that's okay too.”
Talking about birthday traditions, she says, “In Bengali tradition we have a ritual to treat the birthday boy or girl with Chhappan Bhog. Paisum is one of the special dishes which we eat for Mukhshuddhi. It's a special way to start the celebration. Then, we eat whatever food we get in abundance. It's a traditional Bengali ritual that holds sentimental value for me. It's a bit lonely without my mom and dad around, but that's how it is. I miss my nani a lot and she used to cook amazing paisum.”
Ask her what she would like for her birthday in the future and what she wishes for herself, she says, “I dream of celebrating my birthday with my fiancé or boyfriend. I want to celebrate my birthday on a cruise. As for my career, my expectation is to become a star, not just in terms of fame but as someone recognized for their talent. I hope people appreciate my acting skills. I had an opportunity for a TV show for which I had shifted from Delhi to Mumbai, but it got postponed. I'm happy for this second opportunity. People are loving me on screen and my proper entry is left since only two scenes have happened, so I'm just waiting for it.”
Ivanka Das is currently seen in Chand Jalne Laga in a prominent role. She was also part of Saiyami Kher and Abhishek Bachchan starrer Ghoomar.
