Exclusive - Kratika Sengar flaunts her baby bump in a lime green ruffled gown; reveals the maternity pictures are her first personal photoshoot

Kratika Sengar, who was last seen in Choti Sardarni, is all set to embrace motherhood and start a new journey. The actress, who tied the knot with actor Nikitin Dheer in 2014, spoke exclusively with ETimes TV about her pregnancy journey and also revealed about her husband's first reaction when she shared the news. Kratika is in her last trimester and the actress stated that why during the first five-six years of their marriage, the couple did not think about starting a family. She also spoke about how her mother-in-law and sister-in-law have taken care of everything and the family is extremely excited to welcome the new member in the family. (Photo: Instagram)

During lockdown every other person was having babies and getting married. But for us it was not that case. Nikitin and I were not at all in that mind frame to get pregnant or have babies as everyone was losing their loved ones. It was such a difficult time. We were not even sure of the future. How could we even think of having a new life into this world. I feel people who had babies in the lockdown they did not plan it. It happened because both the partners were at home together. But when the situation got better, I was not mentally prepared to have a baby. All this while I was working and had my commitments so there was never a question of starting a family. It’s only when I got a little free and I had time in hand, I started thinking of starting a family. During the first 5-6 years of marriage, I was not mentally prepared to have a baby. It is very important to first prepare your self that you can handle the responsibilities and only then you should go ahead with it. When you are a working women and when you become pregnant you know that you will have to give your full time to the baby and you will be away from work so for that you need to be mentally prepared. Nikitin has been managing time very well and he has been managing all this while. Luckily, we could go for our babymoon also. I could go back to my hometown and spend time with my family. People who work in the television industry for them it gets difficult to take time out, but with films it is relatively fine as they work as per schedule. There is absolutely no change in both of us. We are still that crazy and mad how we have been all this while. We just keep thinking how we are going to handle the baby and take care of it. We keep talking about the baby that's the only difference. I am very jittery and nervous as the dates are approaching closer. But Nikitin is very calm. The moment Nikitin realised that I am going to get hit by mood swings, Usko pehle hit hone lagta hai. Phir Mujhe apne mood swings ko clam down karna padta hai. During pregnancy you have to control your mood swings and I tell him 5 mins before I am going to cry, he then starts laughing and then cries also. I’ve no reason to cry, but I cry and he starts laughing. Phir Woh itna serious Banta he nahi hai and halka phulka ho jaata hai… we both start laughing. (Photo: Instagram)

I’ve a team and my stylist and my PR person who were after me to get this maternity photoshoot done. In my entire career I’ve not done a single personal photoshoot. I know it is hard to believe but it is the fact. I’ve done photoshoot but they have been for show's promotion, brands like sarees and suits. I’ve never got done my personal portfolio. This was the first time I got a personal photoshoot done which was personal and for me. I really enjoyed the process and I was very happy with the results and Sonali Chauhan the photographer had done a brilliant job. (Photo: Instagram)

The last show that I shot for was Choti Sardarni and I did it because Nimrit was unwell and her doctors had advised that she cannot shoot for 2/3 months. I was called in a very crisis situation on an urgent basis by the channel and the makers to do the show. They needed a face who could run the show in Nimrit’s absence because there have been times in the past when a lead has been replaced it has shut down. So since it was a cameo, a responsibility and a challenge, I agreed to do. When I started shooting till the time it was in Mumbai I was fine, but the minute we shifted to Delhi, things became complicated for me. Delhi was hit badly by COVID and my entire extended family was in Delhi and they would call me and request me to go back. (Photo: Instagram)

One of my uncle who was at very disposed, I was speaking with his wife my bua and I joked to her to get me a bed if I get COVID and unwell. She started crying and told me, “Beta bed toh Dila dungi lekin zindagi kaise Dilaaungj.” She then told me that 7 people of her extended family, they all passed away a day before. That’s when it hit me mentally and I need to go back. I told the production and channel that I won’t be able to continue for long and I need to go back. Every two hours I would get a call from my family in Kanpur and from Mumbai asking me how I was coping up. That’s when I decided to take a break till the time it settles down. (Photo: Instagram)

I did a home test because the symptoms were similar to pregnancy. Luckily, I had the pregnancy kit. The moment it showed positive, I just sat in the bathroom. I didn’t share the news with anyone for the next four hours. I was so lost because though I had prepared myself, I was not expecting it to happen so early. Nikitin was in another room, I was just going inside the room and coming out and he saw me doing that. He told me why can’t you just sit why are you going in and out. Then I told him “I am pregnant”, he just started laughing. He told me I should have found a better time to do a prank. Then I showed him the test and he started screaming with joy. I asked him to not scream because I wanted to give our parents a surprise. When we told the family, they got emotional and were happy at the same time. They hugged and got emotional.
