Exclusive: Mom-to-be Dimpy Ganguly and her family ready to move to a bigger place to raise their three kids; talks about hormonal changes, mood swings and more

Mom-to-be Dimpy Ganguly and her family are ready for all the big changes that’s coming their way once their family of 4 becomes 5. In an exclusive chat with ETimes TV, Dimpy spoke to us while waiting in her car ready to go to her daughter Reanna’s recital. The former actress is currently in her third pregnancy and shared about how they are looking for a bigger house, bigger car to raise their three kids. She also spoke to us about handling the low phases during pregnancy, current food cravings and more.

2/11

On pregnancy mood swings and hormonal changes

For me, my mood swings, my hormonal changes, nobody has any control over that. Some days I really feel energetic and some days I feel very low. Somedays, suddenly I feel so anxious about everything. Next morning, it is gone. All this is a part of pregnancy. Looking back, the support is what you need – support from your husband, support from your family, in my case even my children have supported me, my househelp – everyone has helped me through my pregnancy.

3/11

Coping up each day during the pregnancy

I do get consumed with anxiety, negative thoughts, but I just think after everything in the last 33 years, I get a lot of strength when I get to see the positive side of things. When I think about the things that I have, things to be grateful for, it helps me overcome what I am missing or desiring at that point of time.

4/11

Her kids Reanna and Aryan’s reaction on baby names, baby bump

Reanna is always holding my baby bump and goes, ‘Oh my cute little baby’. I don’t know how she is going to react when the baby comes. She is very excited. Bunny (Aryan) is still yet to grasp what’s going on. Just in the morning (on the interview day) Aryan wanted to ride his car on my tummy. He thought it’s a nice little hill to slide the car. He bumped his head on my belly and I had to remind him there’s a baby inside. He looked puzzled. It is cute to see two different kids react in two different ways. Reanna has really hopes. Whenever she has a fight with her brother, she says, ‘Oh I don’t like this brother, I hope I get a sister.’ She thinks she can trade. We’ll see how it goes. The name department is still going around in the adult circle.

5/11

Her baby shower plans

I haven’t had one yet. We are planning on a sprinkle, not a shower. My in-laws are here. I am waiting for my mom, she will be coming down next month when I am due. If we don’t have the baby by then, we might have a baby shower.

6/11

On husband Rohit’s presence during the pregnancy

I am very self sufficient like that. If I crave something, I go out and get it. I don’t make my husband go. Honestly, I am comfortable like that. I like fulfilling my own desires. Rohit has been with me for all my visits, to the doctor’s, for all my scans. He tries to do as much as he can. On weekends, he has a bigger role to play – managing the kids. Being the single bread earner of the family, he has to dedicate his time to work. As a family, we accept it and it works better for us. If he gets too much into my thing, I just tell him, ‘Go, do your work’. (Laughs)

7/11

Do you talk about your feelings with Rohit or keep it to yourself?

This is my third pregnancy. So I know I am having a terrible mood swing. I do share my anxieties with Rohit, which are genuine. Whichever is not, he tells me that ‘we’ll figure it out’. It always helps. I know when I am feeling overwhelmed, low. I cry at the drop of the hat, and I know it’s a mood swing.

8/11

On the changes that comes along with having a big family

A lot of big changes will be happening to our family. We are already planning to move out of this place. I love this place. But I don’t see us as a family of 5 living in this place. I am going through separation anxiety at the moment. But we have to move. In Dubai, you can’t start looking at places way before. You look at places and be ready to move out in two weeks or maximum a month. Then there are other dynamics, should we move in before or after the baby. There are pros and cons to everything. Once the baby is inside, it is one person less. Also, with a growing body, it’s difficult to move around. Once the baby is out, it is physically relaxing but logistically taxing. There are a lot of these things, that are challenging. We are in the middle of all the planning. Even the car, it’s a 5-seater but we have to get a 7-seater. Big changes are coming up with the baby.

9/11

Prior to this, you had told us, being a hands-on mom, do you plan to keep it that way_

No, no! We definitely need somebody. I need additional help. I need somebody to babysit while I am on the move. I can’t be with two kids at one time. The summer in Dubai is so unfriendly. You can’t take little ones outside just like that. I need to leave them at home and I need somebody to stay with them. I am not going to pretend that I am some super woman. That’s another reason why we need to have another house because we need to have a room for that person as well.

10/11

Any set-up for the baby until you shift to a bigger place?

We can’t have a set up yet because whatever needs to be done has to be planned according to the new house. The third baby, we have things but one day I woke up and told Rohit, ‘We don’t have clothes for the baby’. He told me there’s online shopping. We live in the time of convenience, and might as well use it.

11/11

Her current cravings and diet

Last time we spoke, I had spicy cravings and now I am having sweet cravings. I am still having spicy food. I have mirchis with my food. In between, I was averse to sweets. I remember, I had the biggest chunk of Reanna’s birthday cake. I don’t diet in particular but stay away from junk food and processed food. I am a believer in home cooked food.
