Exclusive - Saanand Verma talks about the rise of women-centric films and his commitment to meaningful roles
Actor Saanand Verma, renowned for his iconic role as Anokhelal Saxena in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain, has become a beloved figure in both television and film. With a career that spans multiple acclaimed projects such as Vijay 69, Pataakha, Chhichhore, and Babli Bouncer, Verma has constantly shown his versatility as an actor. Recently, he spoke about the rise of women-centric films and his approach to selecting roles in the industry.
According to Saanand, the industry is undergoing a transformation with a growing emphasis on female-led stories. "Women-centric films and female-led subjects are gaining strong momentum these days," he shared. "Biopics about female achievers are being made, and it's a positive change in the industry. Writers are stepping into direction with stories that focus on women, and they are doing some truly wonderful work." He is particularly excited about working with such projects, revealing that he is currently involved in a cameo in a female-centric film, which has been a highly enjoyable experience for him.
Saanand emphasized that the key to choosing a project is not about typecasting or the size of the role, but the story and character development. "I have never turned down a role just because of its type," he said. "It’s always about how well-written the story is and the depth of the character. For me, exploring diverse roles is important." He made it clear that his decision to take on a role is often shaped by the opportunity to express himself in new and challenging ways.
However, Saanand also mentioned that he steers clear of projects with poor taste or vulgar content. "I haven’t received many such offers, but the ones I did, I refused because they felt cheap," he stated. This speaks to his commitment to being part of stories that offer substance, quality, and contribute to societal awareness.
With a career built on meaningful choices, Saanand’s ultimate goal remains the portrayal of characters that challenge him as an actor and help tell impactful stories.
