Exclusive - Simaran Kaur reveals her love for dance on International Dance Day; says 'It has taught me discipline, surrender, grace, and most importantly, to be fully present'
International Dance Day, observed on 29th April, celebrates the stories that dance tells without a single word. More than just an art form, dance is emotion in motion—a powerful expression of culture, spirit, and connection.
From classical performances to carefree twirls around a room, dance has the power to uplift, inspire, and heal. It builds relationships and forges bonds through shared rhythm. Marking this day, Simaran Kaur from Jamai No. 1 honours the beauty of this universal language and shares cherished memories of how dance has touched her life.
Simaran Kaur, who essays the role of Riddhi in Jamai No. 1 said, “For me, dance isn’t just an art form, it’s where I find my truest self. Since childhood, I’ve felt most alive when I’m dancing—whether on stage, in class, or barefoot in my bedroom with music turned all the way up. One of my most cherished memories is performing in front of my parents every weekend. It became a little tradition at home, I would pick a new song, rehearse all week, and then put on a show just for them. Their smiles and their encouragement felt like they were gently nudging me toward my dreams. As I’ve grown, so has my relationship with dance. Today, I still seek out workshops, explore new styles, and constantly challenge myself to keep learning. Dance has taught me discipline, surrender, grace, and most importantly, to be fully present. You can’t fake it. You have to feel every beat, every breath. So, this International Dance Day, I’m celebrating not just the performances, but the quiet, beautiful moments dance brings into our lives.”
