Exclusive! Tough to see a show end: Karanvir Sharma on Shaurya Au... Read More
Karanvir Sharma started his acting career with films and later moved on to TV and

OTT

. He became a household name by portraying Shaurya in the drama series,

Shaurya Aur Anokhi Ki Kahani

. When asked if this transition was a calculated and well-planned move, Karanvir says, “As an actor, you can’t always decide everything ahead and then work on it as it never works that way. The only time I consciously make changes is when I’m portraying certain roles to ensure I give my best.” The 24 actor further adds, “Even though I have done TV shows in the past, I have realised that the medium is more female-oriented and often male actors don’t get layered and complex roles. It gets mundane after a while. After last year’s lockdown, a few projects of mine were either getting shelved or not taking off. So when Shaurya…came my way, I grabbed it.”

‘A

show going off air

is tough for an actor, but it’s part of our journey’

Karanvir, who is currently essaying the lead role in Shaurya Aur Anokhi Ki Kahani, is processing the news of the show going off air. The cast and crew recently shot for the last episode. Talking about it, he says, “Right now, with my show going off air, I’m taking time to soak it all up. It’s difficult for any actor to bid adieu to a project."

He further adds, "I will always feel the void left behind by my wonderful team, including the cast and crew, as they helped me to become a better individual and actor. I will cherish all the beautiful memories.” So, what’s next? “I’m currently working in a film starring Yami Gautam and I’m looking forward to being a part of some meaty projects,” shares Karanvir.

‘An actor must be open to doing all sorts of roles’
While initially, his character had shades of grey, Karanvir wasn’t afraid of getting

typecast

in such roles. He says, “I wasn’t scared that I will be stereotyped in a particular role. As long as I’m convinced about my role and I look convincing on screen, I don’t give importance to anything else. As an actor, if you start restricting yourself, you will lose out on good roles and opportunities. So it’s better to be open about all kinds of roles.”

‘There have been times when I was

replaced

in a movie at the

last minute

Rejections, failures and being replaced at the last minute, Karanvir has seen it all and feels that instances like these have not just made him a stronger individual but a better actor too. He says, “I have faced

rejections

and failures many times. I feel aspiring actors must prepare themselves to go through the struggles, rejection and failure as it is a part of the process. I was once selected for a film and at the last minute, I was replaced as they wanted to cast a star son. But every time it happened, I worked hard on my craft and became a more saleable actor. Nothing is fair anywhere and you have to fight hard to get what you want.”

How does he deal with success? He says, “My failures have always kept me grounded. So whenever a little bit of

success

goes to my head, I look back at all my failures and it works very well every time.”
