Gautami Kapoor recalls her reaction to husband Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar’s intimate scene in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain: 'I banged the phone on Ram Kapoor'
Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, starring Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar in the lead roles, was one of the most popular TV shows of its time. The mature love story was loved by audiences, who enjoyed watching the on-screen chemistry between Ram and Sakshi. However, Ekta Kapoor’s decision to show intimacy between the lead characters, Ram and Priya (played by Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar), did not go down well with many viewers. Recently, in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ram's wife Gautami Kapoor shared her reaction to the intimate scene.
Gautami recalled how she responded when Ram informed her about the intimate scene. Gautami also mentioned producer Ekta Kapoor, who last year seemed to criticise Ram after his remarks about the scene. Ram had stated that Ekta wrote the scene and proceeded with it despite his reservations.
Talking about her husband Ram's comment Gautami stated that what her husband shared in the interview was actually what happened and it was just misinterpreted. She also mentioned that Ekta may have been referring to another actor from a different show, or perhaps she was talking about something else altogether. Gautami called Ekta a “phenomenal maker,” and how she the TV czarina always has a “lot of clarity” in her thoughts.
Speaking about her reaction to the intimate scene, Gautami said, "I got the call at 2.30 am. I was a mother who was breastfeeding at that time. So when I got the call at 2.30-3 am saying that, 'Listen baby, this is what has happened', my first reaction was I kept the phone on Ram. I was like, ‘What?’ I kept the phone on Ram. I didn’t even want to think further."
However, later the actress took her time to think from all aspects and if her reaction was justified, she added, "I took that time to really reflect on whether it was right for me to bang the phone. Because, see, he was working for a relentless number of hours, day in and day out. There were days when he wouldn't come home, 24 hours, 48 hours. The workload used to be so much on television. It gave me time to reflect on what I am doing."
For the uninitiated, in his interview with Siddharth Kannan last year, Ram recalled the on-screen and Ekta's decision, he had said back then, "Ekta’s the one who wrote the scene, wanted us to do the scene. I told Ekta, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? Television mein kabhi hua nahi (It never happened on television). We were the first kiss of television, which is a big thing. And three generations watch (the show) together… but Ekta was very confident ki wo karna hai (we have to do that). She trusted us. I said, 'Okay, I’ll first get a go-ahead from my wife… Fir maine Sakshi ko bola ki (then I told Sakshi) look, I will handle Ekta, if you have a problem, tell me....Uske baad jo hua Ekta ne jhela."
Soon after Ram’s comment, Ekta took to Instagram Stories with a note that did not name anyone directly. “Unprofessional actors giving interviews about my shows shud shut up! False information N skewed stories. Can only last till. I talk’…… but there is dignity in silence."
