Gulfam Khan Hussain: The entourage culture is unfair to producers and the entire team

The entourage culture has indeed taken the industry by storm, as observed by Anurag Kashyap. Actress Gulfam Khan Hussain, who is currently seen in the TV show Dhruv Tara has taken the debate forward, echoing a similar sentiment. The actress, who will be now seen in a web series Waack Girls, shares how the entourage culture should not be encouraged as it is not fair to the producers of a project. She said, "It is unfair to the producer, co-actors and how the costs incurred affect the entire team. I have seen instances when the staff of the artiste acts more difficult than the artiste and we as co-actors have to just sit and observe."

She added, "With social media becoming important for actors, there are social media teams appointed by actors for making BTS videos and reels. It’s okay to make reels and become influencers too, but it should not interfere in the work on the sets and their costs should be incurred by the actor and not the production house." Sharing further how she has only one assistant with her on the set, the actress said, "My assistant is my driver-attendant. He has strict instructions about boundaries."

Gulfam also shares how a large entourage can increase costs significantly and create a crowded, potentially disruptive environment on sets. She said, "⁠It's okay to have your make-up artist, hairdresser and boy on the set. But, one should check how they don't cross boundaries and not disturb others. If you are under threat or scared of getting mobbed, you can have bodyguards around, but not on the floor where you are working. I do my own makeup and for hair, I trust the professionals assigned by the producers. I don't have a separate hair stylist and social media person accompanying me on the set everyday. As actors, we should understand that the overall environment on the set is important and it should not be disturbed. We don't need too many people to do our job.”
