Gurmeet Choudhary extends support to Rajpal Yadav as he is jailed in Rs 9 crore debt case; says, 'It breaks my heart to see a senior going through such a painful phase'
Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, who is currently serving a sentence in Tihar Jail in connection with a Rs 9 crore debt and cheque bounce case, has received support from Gurmeet Choudhary. Gurmeet has extended his support to Rajpal and urged producers, directors, and members of the film fraternity to come forward and stand by the veteran actor.
On Tuesday, The Pati Patni Aur Panga fame actor took to his official X handle (formerly Twitter) and urged everyone to help Rajpal Yadav, “It breaks my heart to see a senior, immensely talented artist like Rajpal Yadav ji going through such a painful phase. He has given us countless smiles, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Today, he needs us."
He added, "As a fellow actor and as a human being, I am stepping forward to help in whatever way I can. I humbly request all producers, directors, and members of our film fraternity—let’s come together, with compassion and humanity, and find a solution. Our industry is a family. And family does not abandon its own."
Not just Gurmeet Choudhary, earlier Sonu Sood also offered his help to the seasoned actor. Taking to his Instagram story, Sonu wrote, “Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us, producers, directors, colleagues, to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity; it’s dignity. When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry."
For the uninitiated, Rajpal Yadav surrendered to the police after the Delhi High Court directed him to do so in connection with multiple cheque bounce cases. Rajpal Yadav, who had taken a loan to make his film 'Ata Pata Laapata' in 2010, was unable to repay the loan. Cheques issued by him and his wife reportedly bounced which made the lender approach the court. While the original loan was Rs 5 crore, the amount due is said to have grown to nearly Rs 9 crore over time.
