Gurmeet Choudhary recently took to social media to speak out against the racist remarks faced by an Indian couple in the US. The actor reacted to a viral video showing an Indian couple facing racist behaviour in the United States, where a man was heard telling them to “get out of America.”
Gurmeet shared his anger on social media over the racist remarks and stated that such incidents should not be ignored or taken lightly. His reaction came as the viral video triggered strong reactions from people online.
Gurmeet wrote on his Instagram handle, "Racism against Indians anywhere in the world cannot be normalized anymore. For years, many stayed silent, ignored the insults, and kept moving forward. But respect is not optional."
He added, "Indians contribute globally with hard work, talent, intelligence, and humanity. We deserve the same dignity and respect as anyone else. This is not against any country or people; this is against racism. Enough silence. Stand for respect. Stand for humanity please (folded hand emoji)”. He put the post with hashtags: #JaiHind, #StopRacism, #RespectIndians and #HumanityFirst."
As soon as Gurmeet shared the post, several users commented on the post and expressed their opinion.
A user wrote, “Respect can't be demanded. How can we seek respect when we don't respect each other. We call Chinese, Momo to North east, Idli dosa to the south etc." Another user wrote, “Totally completely agree Racism is not acceptable as we Indians also respect everyone across of the world in India so we r also should be respected, this isn't the thing should be asked It should be given.”
In the video, a man is heard asking an Indian couple, "Are you from India?" As soon as they replied yes, he then asked them if they liked living in America and which country they considered better—America or India. The couple responded calmly, saying that both countries have their own good qualities. They added that India represents family for them and that every place has its own importance.
