“I have no connection with the property”: Asit Kumarr Modi responds to Urvashi Dholakia’s late-night construction allegations
A recent controversy around alleged late-night construction in Mumbai’s Juhu area has taken a new turn after Asit Kumarr Modi issued a clarification distancing himself from the property in question.
The issue first came to light when television actress Urvashi Dholakia shared her distress over what she described as a “midnight horror” caused by ongoing construction work in her neighbourhood. In a detailed open letter posted on social media, she raised concerns about loud noise, drilling, and activity continuing well beyond permissible hours, affecting the sleep and well-being of residents.
However, a statement has now been issued by Mr. Jignesh and the appointed contractor, M/S Mehta & Co., clarifying that the property does not belong to Asit Kumarr Modi. The statement read, “The property in question does not belong to Asit Kumarr Modi and is being constructed by Mr. Jignesh and appointed contractor, M/S Mehta & Co., with all requisite approvals in place. We strongly object to the unnecessary mention of Asit Kumarr Modi’s name in a matter entirely unrelated to him. The allegations made by Urvashi Dholakia are baseless and misleading.”
Reacting to the controversy, Asit Kumarr Modi also issued his own clarification. He said, “I have absolutely no connection with the said property and this matter does not concern me in any way.” He further added, “I am surprised my name has been dragged into this unnecessarily—Urvashi Dholakia could have reached out to me directly for any clarification.”
Previously, Urvashi alleged that the property where the construction was taking place belonged to Asit Kumarr Modi and his family. She also tagged civic authorities and requested immediate intervention, urging them to enforce construction timing rules and ensure residents’ right to peace.
She wrote, “For several days now, construction work has continued well beyond permissible hours… The constant noise… has made it extremely difficult for residents to rest.” She further highlighted that families, elderly individuals, and working professionals were being impacted by the situation.
The actress also expressed disappointment over the lack of response from authorities, revealing that she had called the police emergency number multiple times between 4:23 AM and 4:55 AM but received no assistance. “I waited under my building… and no one turned up,” she stated, questioning the system’s responsiveness in urgent situations.
