Jheel Mehta: I quit showbiz in 2012 because I wanted to focus on my education

Remember the original Sonu (Jheel Mehta) from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah? The child actor quit the entertainment industry after a few years of playing the character and later ventured into the beauty business with her mother.

Jheel, who is now a make-up artiste, recently got engaged to her long-time boyfriend, video content creator Aditya Dubey and shared pictures and videos of the proposal on social media.

Jheel played the role of Aatmaram and Madhavi Bhide’s daughter from the show’s inception in 2008 to 2012. Ask her why she quit showbiz all those years ago and she replies, “I wanted to focus on my education and complete my studies. Working in Taarak Mehta was a great experience, but at that point I felt it was important that I finish my studies and then decide what I want to pursue as a career.”

Talking about how she enjoys being a make-up artiste, Jheel adds, “I keep sharing videos on beauty and hair styling online. I enjoy this profession more than acting. Once I grew up, I enjoyed styling and make-up more than acting, so, I decided to switch professions.”

Apparently, actress Nidhi Bhanushali who played the character of Sonu after Jheel quit, from 2012-2019 also bid adieu to the show, since she wanted to focus on her education. Currently, actress Palak Sindhwani is playing the character.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is one of the longest running TV shows. It is produced by Asit Kumarr Modi and Dilip Joshi plays the lead role in it.
