Karan Veer Mehra: January 19 is the day I feel I got a new life
Bigg Boss 18 winner Karan Veer Mehra is currently focused on wrapping up the final schedule of his upcoming film, Silaa. The actor leaves for Vietnam on January 19, a date that carries deep personal and professional significance for him.
Reflecting on the coincidence, Karan points out that January 19 marks one year since he won Bigg Boss 18 and also happens to be his late father’s birthday. He says, “It feels uncanny. January 19 is my father’s birthday, and it is also the day I feel I got a new life. After spending 20 years struggling in this industry, winning Bigg Boss changed the course of my journey. I believe my father blessed me with the trophy as a gift. Touch wood, I haven’t looked back since.”
While audience loyalties often shift with every season of Bigg Boss, Karan says what has stood out for him is the consistency of the support he has received after the reality show. “Favourites do change every season, but the people who connected with me have stayed. That kind of loyalty means a lot to me and gives me confidence as I move forward,” he adds.
In Silaa, Karan steps away from the conventional hero mould to play Zehraak, the antagonist. When asked whether taking on a negative role came with any apprehension, he replies, “In fact, I actively seek out and choose roles like these. For me, it is no longer about whether a character is positive or negative, but about how honestly it is portrayed. Negative characters give you more scope to perform.”
Confident in his journey so far, Karan concludes, “I am secure as an actor and as a person. God has given me a lot and I am grateful. I just hope to keep doing good work and not disappoint anyone.”
