My father who is Mika Singh’s friend took a long pause when I told him I was participating in his swayamvar, says comedian VIP’s daughter Dhwani Pawar

Actor-singer Dhwani Pawar likes to make unconventional choices. From participating in Mika Di Voti (singer Mika Singh’s swayamvar, which aired in June 2022), to acting in Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s Favvara Chowk and recently a musical thriller, she has always followed her heart. However, her participation in Mika Di Voti surprised us, especially because her father, comedian VIP (Vijay Ishwarlal Pawar), had been a friend of Mika’s for years now. She says, “Participating in a swayamvar on national television isn’t something one usually envisions. So, I asked my mother about it first. Surprisingly, she was quite encouraging. However, I wasn’t sure about my father’s reaction because he and Mika Singh have been friends for more than 15 years. He paused long before telling me to follow my heart and take it up if I was comfortable with the choice.”

She adds, “It wasn’t awkward for me despite Mika being my father’s friend. I thought more about my parents and whether they and especially my father would be comfortable. If Mika and I developed feelings for each other then why not? However, we became good friends on the show. We do a lot of live shows together, and I enjoy working with him. So, in the end, I didn’t lose anything by participating in the reality show, I only gained.”

While she enjoyed her stint on the reality show, Dhwani was keen on acting in a TV show. Soon she got an opportunity to fulfil her dream. “I have been acting since I was a child (laughs!). I would imitate Shakira, and Ameesha Patel in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, and Aamir Khan in Lagaan. I would wear a dhoti and dance to the song Mitwa. It’s safe to say that I had a deep-rooted desire to become an actor. So, my happiness knew no bounds when I was offered a part in Favvara Chowk. I feel fortunate that I got a chance to work with seasoned artistes like Bharti, Haarsh, and Ali Asgar. I look forward to taking up more acting offers.”

Even though she wants to be occupied as an actor, Dhwani doesn’t wish to put singing on hold. She says, “Music is close to my heart. In fact, I was part of a musical thriller. It was a new experience for me. I will be seen in another series with Ali Asgar and Susmita Mukherjee. Interestingly, my character in it is grey, which is different from the bubbly, cute, and sweet roles that I get to play usually.”

So, what’s closer to her heart – acting or singing? “It is difficult to choose because these are interconnected. When singing, I try to understand the emotion behind the song. That’s when the actor in me helps the singer. Similarly, my training in music helps in working on my sound and pitch as per the need of the character I am portraying. So, they go together for me. However, I see myself choosing acting over singing somewhere down the line. Acting is my number one thing, but I will never leave singing. I am also interested in participating in reality shows like Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi,” she concludes.
