Nakuul Mehta on raising his son Sufi without screen exposure; says 'He knows I’m an actor, he’s been to my set, but he hasn’t watched any of my work'
Nakuul Mehta has earned immense love from fans for his several roles on television. The actor, who is currently seen in a new project Space Gen Chandrayaan, spoke about fatherhood and how it has changed him as a person. In an interview with India Today, Nakuul opened up about bringing up his son without screen exposure and that becoming a parent has changed how he looks at ambition and success.
He shared, "It’s interesting that this show came to me at a point when becoming a parent made me question a lot of choices in life. I am inherently ambitious, and ambition is sometimes looked down upon in this country. I think ambition is a great thing, but after becoming a parent, my ambition has become quieter. It’s no longer about going all guns blazing. It’s about chasing the smaller wins."
He also talked about his decision of keeping his son away from the screen, "My son now knows that I’m an actor and he’s been to my set, but he hasn’t watched any of my work. He has heard a song from one of my shows, Never Kiss Your Best Friend. It has a beautiful album, and he loves the song, but he doesn’t know what the visuals are. He has met my friends, he’s met Shreya (Saran), he’s met Danish (Sait), but he hasn’t seen any of my work."
Elaborating further, Nakuul revealed that his decision was a conscious one. "I don’t think he should grow up thinking that what his dada does is different from what everyone else does. I want him to know that I’m a professional, I go to work, and I do what I love. Right now, that’s where we are. It will evolve and change in a few months, but I’m very happy with this at the moment."
Nakuul is a father of two. He and his wife, singer Jankee Parekh, have a son named Sufi and the couple welcomed their second child, a daughter named Rumi last year in August.
