OTT gives actors a chance to be real, says Himanshu Malhotra

Actor Himanshu Malhotra, who is making his OTT debut with Rana Naidu 2, believes that streaming platforms have revolutionized the kind of roles actors can explore. “OTT deals with realism and reflects everyday life. I don’t think artists, need to put constraints on themselves,” he says. For Himanshu, context is everything. “If a scene is required for the story and helps portray the character convincingly, those decisions will be made when the time comes. Of course, we don’t want to do anything uncalled for,” he adds.

Speaking about the roles offered by OTT, he says, “These aren’t your run-of-the-mill characters. When roles are layered, it’s a joy for any actor. That’s what we train for, to dive deep into a character. OTT is a blessing. It lets us be real and honest, almost as if we’re living the moment.” Talking about his role in Rama Naidu 2, he adds, “It’s a big show with a massive star cast and a huge budget. Working on OTT isn’t just about reach, it’s about meaningful content. I feel truly blessed.”

He’s also excited by the growth and accessibility of streaming content. “OTT is here to stay. You can binge-watch at your pace, and the quality is brilliant. Shows like Adolescence are gamechangers. OTT provides immense opportunities for everyone. In films, time limit can restrict the character depth. But OTT allows longer screen time and deeper storytelling. That’s the real advantage.”
