Roop Durgapal: I prefer to keep my personal life closely guarded
Actor Roop Durgapal, best known for Balika Vadhu, believes in maintaining a clear boundary between her personal and professional life.
“In my opinion, private life is called private for a reason, and it should remain that way. I prefer to keep my personal life closely guarded and share it only with my close circle,” she says.
At the same time, she acknowledges the role of social media. “I do share certain parts of my life, but selectively. It’s about balance—not completely private, but not completely public. I want people to know me mainly for my work.”
Roop also reflects on how audiences often blur the line between actor and character. “When I played Saachi, people assumed I was like her in real life. Some even questioned me for troubling Anandi,” she recalls, adding that such reactions come from viewers forming strong emotional connections with on-screen characters.
Talking about fame, she says it can feel overwhelming initially. “In the beginning, it’s natural to feel disoriented. But with time, you realise fame is just a part of your job. It doesn’t define who you are.”
Having been in the industry since 2012, Roop credits self-awareness for keeping her grounded. “It’s important to know your values. Our profession is unpredictable, and being aware of yourself helps you deal with pressure better.”
She also finds balance through simple practices. “Yoga has brought a lot of positive change in my life. And friends and family keep me connected to reality—they see me as a daughter, sister, or friend, not an actor.”
After hectic schedules, she consciously disconnects. “I often go for long walks, short treks, or solo trips close to nature. It helps me recharge.”
Her biggest takeaway: “Fame comes and goes, but who you are at your core remains the same. Staying grounded and self-aware makes all the difference.”
