Hindi Diwas is observed on September 14 in Hindi speaking states of India, to celebrate the adoption of Hindi as one of the official languages of the country. On this day, television actress
Roopal Tyagi
, who has been a part of shows such as ‘
Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke
’ and ‘Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki’, talks to us about the importance of Hindi Diwas.
Roopal says, “These days, I have often seen people talking in English at home and even encourage young kids to speak in English. While there is nothing wrong with that, one should not neglect regional languages. When someone talks in fluent English, they feel they sound smart. But there is nothing wrong in communicating in a regional language. We should keep our
culture alive
and teach kids multiple languages. Being multilingual also helps the brain function better. Every family should celebrate their culture, language and traditions. English is important to learn especially when we communicate with people around the globe, but Hindi is important, too, as our culture is precious.”
