Sonam Lamba
reveals on why she chose to stay away from TV, when her acting career was on a peak. The actress gained popularity playing the role of Vidya, daughter of Gopi (
Devoleena Bhattacharjee) and Ahem (Mohammad Nazim) in the TV show '
Saath Nibhaana Saathiya
'.
She says, "I was never running for the race to rule the screen. I was just enjoying my work as an actress. Also, I had planned to quit acting at that time so I kept myself away from showbiz and returned to my hometown, Chandigarh. I prioritised my family and my studies. I was doing
Bachelor of Education
before I joined my first show, 'Desh Ki Beti Nandini'. That time I left my studies in between. So I wanted to get my degree and do my masters. And I'm happy that I have my degrees today. I choose to do whatever satisfies me and makes me and my family happy. I don't have any regrets."
She planned to return back to showbiz after she lost her father. She shares, "My father passed away last year. I was already facing that trauma and just after that the lockdown happened. Life became so depressing. At that time, I just wanted to get busy in something. And suddenly a new show, 'Ek Duje Ki Parchhaiwas' was offered to me and I agreed. But, destiny has its own plans. The shoots are on hold because of the second wave of
COVID
. And I am back again to my hometown. But I'm sure to get back to work after the pandemic ends."
The actress also wants to make her debut in
Punjabi
industry. "Being Punjabi, and from Chandigarh I missed the entertainment industry here. Had I started my career here, I could have enjoyed my acting career and pursued my studies simultaneously. Now I am a fan of this industry. I'm keen on doing music videos and films here," says Sonam who has featured in shows like 'Balika Vadhu' and
Diya Aur Baati Hum
.
