Surbhi Jyoti on expecting her first child: The joy comes in waves - Exclusive
Surbhi Jyoti, who married long-time boyfriend Sumit Suri in October 2024, is all set to embrace motherhood. The actress announced her pregnancy on Instagram yesterday, sharing a photograph of her and her husband’s feet placed beside a tiny pair of white baby shoes. In the post, she revealed that they are expecting their first child in June this year.
Opening up about this new phase, Surbhi says, “When I found out that I’m pregnant, that was the peak moment because it’s something you experience for the first time. It’s overwhelming, exciting and emotional. But as the days go by, it slowly becomes part of your routine. It’s a beautiful feeling, yet I think we tend to glamourise pregnancy. It’s only human not to feel excited every single day. The joy comes in waves, especially when you share the news with family. Beyond that, life continues quite normally.”
The Qubool Hai actress shares that the couple chose to take this step within a year of marriage. She says, “We had barely been married for a year when we got pregnant. We just thought, what is stopping us from taking the next step? I’m so happy with him. He’s such a wonderful man. We felt it would be exciting to have someone who is half him and half me, so we decided to go for it. By God’s grace, it’s a miracle that it happened.”
On whether pregnancy has altered their relationship, Surbhi reflects, “Honestly, nothing has changed because we were always very close and content. That’s why we decided to take this step. It wasn’t about filling a void. He has always been caring and supportive. Pregnancy hasn’t changed that.”
Recalling the moment she shared the news with him, she says, “He started laughing and I started crying. Then I was laughing and crying, and he was just laughing and looking at me. We didn’t know how to react. He’s not very expressive, so I think that was the loudest reaction he could give. He was probably overwhelmed, and laughter was his way of processing it.”
Speaking about pregnancy aversions, she adds with a laugh, “I stopped having tea, and that was a huge shock. I loved tea. It was almost an addiction. I also couldn’t stand the smell of a perfume my husband uses, even though I liked it earlier. Thankfully, that was limited to the first trimester. I did feel very tired and lethargic, probably due to hormonal changes. But my second trimester has been very smooth.”
As for conversations about the baby’s gender, she says, “Sumit definitely wants a daughter. He keeps saying, imagine a little girl like you, it would be so much fun (smiles). I tell him that whether it’s a girl or a boy, I’ll love the baby equally. All that matters is that the child is healthy.”
