The Great Indian Kapil Show: Sanjay Dutt recalls his jail term— 'Radio shuru kiya, natak company banayi… aur dadhi ek double murderer ne kaati'
The Great Indian Kapil Show season 3 continues to entertain fans every weekend with its fun conversations and celebrity guests. The latest episode welcomed the Bollywood duo Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty, who made a powerful entry to their iconic track Rama Re from the film Kaante. The audience, along with Kapil Sharma and Archana Puran Singh, were left star struck by their entry. Kapil even joked that the two should re-enter the stage due to “technical issues,” confessing that he just wanted to see Sanjay Dutt’s famous walk one more time.
The episode was filled with laughter, lighthearted moments, and many stories from the duo’s journey in Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty pulled each other’s leg, recalling fun incidents from their time working together. But the highlight of the episode came when Sanjay Dutt spoke candidly about his past and his time in jail.

When Kapil asked the actors about regrets in life, Sanjay Dutt replied that he had no regrets except losing his late parents. With his trademark wit, he added, “Baki yaar jail gaya bahar aaya,” making the audience burst into laughter.
Archana Puran Singh then reminded Sanjay of his time in jail when he had learned carpentry. To this, Sanjay revealed that he was paid for his work. “Mujhe pagar milti thi, agar meine kursiyan banayi toh pagar milti thi ya paper bags toh pagar milti thi (I used to get paid. If I made chairs, I got paid, if I made paper bags, I got paid).” He further shared that he even started a radio station inside called Radio YCP FM, where inmates prepared scripts, comedy, and discussion topics for the shows.
He revealed that he had also formed a theatre group inside the jail. “Maine ek natak company bhi shuru ki thi. Main wahan uska director tha aur murder wale sab natak karte the (I even started a theatre company there. I was the director and the murder convicts used to act in the plays).”
One of the most shocking stories Sanjay narrated was about his beard. He recalled that the jail superintendent once told him to shave as it did not look good. Sanjay refused, saying he would keep it until his release. Later, a prisoner named Mishra ji was asked to shave his beard. While using a razor on Sanjay’s neck, Sanjay casually asked him how long he had been in jail. Mishra ji replied “15 years” and when asked why, he said “double murder.” The revelation left Sanjay shocked, and the audience equally stunned.
The episode also featured a special moment when Dr. Anupam Sachdeva from the audience, who came all the way from Delhi appeared with young cancer worriers. He thanked Kapil and his team for bringing smiles to children and their parents during difficult times.
The on-screen duo was also joined by Sunil Grover and Kiku Sharda as Asha and Pareek and Krushna Abhishek playing his famous character Jaggu Dada later joined by Sunil Grover as Manjot Singh Siddhu.
The current season of The Great Indian Kapil Show has featured a wide variety of guests from both Bollywood and the world of sports, including Salman Khan, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Ali Fazal, Sara Ali Khan, Ajay Devgn, Rishabh Pant, Vijay Varma, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Jaideep Ahlawat and the cast of Param Sundari with Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in the previous episode.
