‘We had lots of sleepless nights’Chaitannya reveals that he wanted to quit acting, as he lost the “passion and spunk” for the craft. For Chaitannya “the idea of being relevant was never a thought”, however, he also ensured to strike a balance between the roles he was taking up and minting money. “Monetary used to be a concern... you felt short of money, you used to struggle. However, I would also do ads, and that would save me. That (the ads) kept on happening at the right time, as if some force was protecting me, making me sail through,” Chaitannya shares. The financial instability led to uncomfortable times for Chaitannya and his wife. “It was tough. But I give the credit to my wife; she chipped in on when she could. She stood by me and I give her a lot of credit. We had lots of sleepless nights. But we fought through. We fought with each other, but also fought though, we were there for each other. That was the beauty of it,” he mentions.

‘Regret Saying no to Aamir Khan’s Delhi BellyAs he talks about his career, Chaitannya also reveals how he said no to multiple projects. However, the only one that he regrets losing out was Aamir Khan’s Delhi Belly. “I was doing Sangam and Zara Nachke Dikha, I would be so busy that I would sleep in my make-up room. One such day, when I was sleeping in the make-up room. I got a call from Aamir Khan’s production house for this movie Delhi Belly. I said, ‘I am sorry, I cannot do this, I don’t have the time’. I woke up and realised what I have done. I spoke to my wife and she said, ‘You are stupid, that could have done so much for you’. I don’t know which character though,” he shares.

Recounting a tough phase...

Chaitannya, 46, played a father in Sukhee, for which he channelled inspiration from his equation with his father. Chaitannya admits modestly, he is “great with kids”, however, he is yet to become a father in real life, despite 14 years of marriage with Harrsiddhi Rajpal Choudhry. “My mother questions a lot. So, we went through certain things – a miscarriage. Then we never got around. It is on my mind, but let’s see,” Chaitannya shares. The actor has never spoken or shared about the unfortunate incident that took place in 2019. As he opens up about it for the first time, he adds, “It was very tough. More tough for my wife as she had a dual loss (she lost her mom and then the child). We had consciously not tried for a baby as we were going through a phase in life. We were going through a tough phase, and we didn’t want the responsibility of a child, otherwise the child would suffer. So, we delayed it and when we were ready, it didn’t work out. Now I left it on the big man on top.”
