Dekha Ek Khwaab fame television actor Ashish Kapoor has been arrested on charges of rape. He was taken into custody after a woman filed a complaint accusing him of sexually assaulting her. According to the police, the woman alleged that Ashish assaulted her inside a washroom during a house party in Delhi in the second week of August.
As per a report in The Indian Express, the news of the actor's arrest in Pune was confirmed by DCP (North) Raja Banthia. The report further stated that the police traced Ashish's movements from Goa to Pune, after which he was arrested by a special team dispatched to both locations.
According to the police, the complainant first alleged that Kapoor, along with the friend who organised the house party and two unidentified men, had sexually assaulted her. She further stated that another woman had physically attacked her.
Police stated that the woman later revised her statement, alleging that only Kapoor was responsible and had raped her. Officials added that the case, initially registered as gang rape, will be modified to charges of rape as the investigation proceeds. According to police, an FIR was registered on August 11 against Kapoor, his friend, the friend’s wife, and two unidentified men. A week later, on August 18, the complainant gave a fresh statement alleging that Kapoor and his friend had raped her, while the woman assaulted her. On August 21, Kapoor’s friend and his wife sought anticipatory bail, which the court granted. The victim was also present during the hearing but did not mention the friend’s name in her submissions. Investigators added that CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts suggest that during the party, Kapoor and the woman went into the washroom together. When they failed to come out for some time, his friend and other guests began knocking on the door.
According to police, a heated argument erupted among the group and continued all the way to the society gate, where the complainant claimed that Kapoor’s friend’s wife assaulted her. Officers further stated that it was the wife who eventually dialed the PCR for assistance.
