Prashanth Gowda opens up about trolling, body shaming ahead of wedding with Krithi Gowda
Kannada comedian and actor Prashanth Gowda, known for entertaining audiences through popular reality shows like Gicchi Giligili and Boys vs Girls, has spoken candidly about the emotional struggles he faced due to trolling and body shaming.
Prashanth, who is set to marry Krithi Gowda soon, shared his experiences during an interview with the YouTube channel Newsso Newsu. The actor revealed that he often faced teasing and mocking comments even before people knew Krithi was his girlfriend.
“I used to accept those jokes and later explain everything to her. Whether it is social media, digital media, cinema or any other field, negativity will always exist. There is no place without negativity, and we must learn to accept it and move forward,” Prashanth said.
He further revealed that Krithi initially found it difficult to deal with online criticism and negative remarks. However, he constantly encouraged her to ignore the trolls and focus on their relationship.
“She would get tense whenever people made negative comments. I always told her not to overthink it. I like you and you like me, that is all that matters,” he shared.
The comedian also reflected on his journey before entering television. Prashanth said he started out as a content creator and admitted that he used to post honest comments on others’ videos.
“If something was good, I appreciated it. If I felt something needed improvement, I would say that too. So I understand the kind of comments people make online. I am ready to accept reality,” he explained.
Opening up about body shaming and colour-based insults, Prashanth admitted that such comments deeply hurt him during the initial phase of his career.
“When people called me dark or fat, I couldn’t handle it. I have cried silently wondering why people speak so harshly. I used to think — is being dark wrong? Why are people so cruel?” he said.
Despite the pain, the actor said he has now embraced self-acceptance and no longer allows negativity to affect his mental peace.
“Yes, I am dark, I may not look perfect, and I am overweight. But once I accepted myself, what more can anyone do? Now, no matter what people ask or say, I answer with a smile,” Prashanth added.
