Did you know Drishyam actress Asha Sharath started off her career in a Malayalam TV serial?
Drishyam 3 is on the cards, and not just Malayalis—every movie lover is awaiting to know what Georgekutty and his family will encounter in the upcoming sequel. Ahead of the buzz, here is a small trivia about one of the most important characters, aka the actress, in the movie series. Did you know the lead actress of the movie, Asha Sharath, the mighty IG Geetha Prabhakar, started off her career in a Malayalam TV serial?
Yes, you heard it right. Asha Sharath, who is also a dancer, made her acting debut in the evergreen Malayalam TV series 'Kumkumapoovu.' In the serial, she played the lead character, Prof. Jayanthi. Undoubtedly, her character, a mother who finds her long-lost daughter after decades, was one of the most celebrated characters. Be it her incredible acting or her dressing style, everything was in trend back in 2011. Along with her, actors Shelly, Shanavas Shanu, Sajan Surya, and others also left a lasting impression on the hearts of every Malayali.
In a throwback video of her making rounds on social media, Asha reveals that she got cast for Drishyam while she was acting in Kumkumapoovu.
"When the offer came to me, I had one tension. Jayanthi is an emotional character who would express herself throughout the series. What if the viewers felt Geetha IPS was just like Jayanthi in a police uniform? I was concerned that it would affect the movie as well as me. But their response surprised me. They said, "Malayalis are so brilliant that they very well know how to differentiate characters," she said.
Though she has done only one serial in Malayalam, Asha Sharath managed to win hearts, and still, she is the much-loved Professor Jayanthi for the telly audience. After Kumkumapoovu, she had done movies like Friday, Karmayodha, Ardhanaaru, and Zachariayude Garbhinikal, but it is Drishyam that stood as the game-changer in her acting career. Not just in Malayalam, Asha had played the same character in the Kannada and Tamil versions too.
