Bigg Boss Malayalam 5 has welcomed 18 contestants from different walks of life. Each of the 'original' contestants have their own story and some of them hit headlines even before entering the show. From getting arrested in a drug case to engaging in nasty online fights with YouTubers, there are some lesser-known controversies too. Here is a look at some of them.

Angeline Mariya made headlines after the release of the Omar Lulu movie, 'Nalla Samayam'. For the unversed, the movie was pulled out of the theaters following a case being registered against it after excise officials alleged that the movie promoted the use of narcotic substances and also showed how to use the drug MDMA. Amidst this controversy, Angeline during an interaction with the media made a statement that she will try taking 'M' if she wishes to. This statement became viral and she faced severe bullying.

Sobha Viswanath landed in a huge controversy in 2021. Sobha was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau on January 31, 2021, after 480 grams of ganja were seized from her clothing store in Thiruvananthapuram. Following the incident, Sobha had written to the Chief Minister of Kerala and the Director General of Police, seeking justice. The CM then ordered a Crime Branch inquiry into the matter. Later, it was proven that the case was framed by a male friend who was reportedly stalking her, for rejecting his proposal.

More than his stint as a movie director, Akhil Marar gained attention with his controversial statements online. Recently, he made headlines with his social media spat with YouTuber Aswanth Kok. The director lashed out at the vlogger for his reportedly insensitive movie reviews and comments about actors. He also gained attention by slamming former Bigg Boss Malayalam contestant Robin Radhakrishnan too.
