Indian Idol: Amritha Rajan wins hearts with her viral audition; says, “I’m living the best days of my life”
A singer hailing from the state of Kerala has raised quite a buzz in the nation as her effortless and charismatic performance on a popular musical reality show in the Hindi language has left everyone stunned. Tucking her hands inside her pockets and appearing unruffled even as millions are hanging on to her words, Amritha Rajan has left the populace in a frenzy online. Her performance video has already reached the mark of 60 million views.
Right from the time Amritha stepped onto the stage, the judges Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, and Badshah looked very impressed. When she chose to sing the classic “Hey Rama Ye Kya Hua,” it was amazing to see her display control, energy, and confidence beyond measure, especially since it was her first time in front of the judges. Her carefree demeanor only added to the magic Amritha was weaving with her voice.
However, the judges were not the only ones impressed. Prior to that, during the sound check, when Amritha started with her “Check, check, check” voice warm-up, it impressed singer Shreya Ghoshal enough for her to clap in admiration. It is an indication that the audience loves authenticity more than technicality, since her performance went viral on social networking sites.
A resident of Perumbavoor in Kerala, she had no support in pursuing her musical interests. Despite this, she continued composing her own songs and honed her skills so she could promote her talents on her own.
During her Indian Idol audition, Amritha shared a philosophy that resonated instantly with viewers. When asked what she expected from the show, she replied, “When I came for Indian Idol, I only had this thought, don’t impress, just express; don’t compete, just connect. Just enjoy and entertain, that’s it! I’m living the best days of my life. To the incredible Indian Idol team- thank you so much!"
