Malayalis have always held 'Manichithrathazhu' in high esteem, considering it an epic film from Mollywood. Despite several adaptations, Shobhana's portrayal of Nagavalli remains the pinnacle of acting excellence. Many decades after the film's initial release, Mohanlal, who played Dr. Sunny in 'Manichithrathazhu', made a special request to the director, Fazil, for a sequel. Fazil's response to this request was nothing short of legendary.
In a spectacular event, the stalwarts of Malayalam cinema came together as the Malayalam Movie Actors Association and a popular entertainment channel co-hosted the "Mazhavil Entertainment Awards 2023." The evening was marked by numerous unforgettable moments, and one of the highlights was the engaging interaction between Shobhana, Mohanlal, and Fazil.
During the felicitation of Fazil as 'The Master Entertainer Director', actor Mohanlal was seen cherishing their cult movie, 'Manichithrathazhu'.
"Pachikka (Fazil), everyone keeps asking me, even Shobhana just asked, will there be Manichithrathazhu 2?" Mohanlal asked with his signature humor.
Replying to the question, Fazil promised that he would surely do it but with the help of AI.
"Manichitharathazhu is that one movie that became a classic without me even realizing it. So, doing a second part of such a classic is not right. But, maybe with the help of AI, we can reduce the age of the cast back to thirty years and try it. Someday, I promise," Fazil said.
