Scary! Hundreds of fish found dead in Coimbatore’s Valankulam tank
It was indeed scary! Hundreds of dead fish were found floating in Coimbatore’s Valankulam tank on Tuesday. Locals residents point to toxic discharge from nearby textile units as reason for the hundreds of thousands of dead fish and that they want a probe. The water of the tank remains polluted and is unfit even for agricultural use. Fishermen removed dead fishes from the water to avoid further contamination caused by the ones that started to decay. Meanwhile Coimbatore corporation officials have started investigating the matter. Relevantly whether in fresh or marine waters, fish require untainted food, suitable habitat and adequate oxygen to survive.
