This sewer-cleaning robot is saving lives in Gurugram
Bandicoot, a semi-automatic robot, is used by Gurugram Municipal Corporation to clean the city’s sewers. The semi-automatic robot was developed by Thiruvananthapuram-based startup Genrobotics. Bandicoot will replace men in sewers to eliminate manual scavenging. The 1.5 m tall semi-automatic robot weighs around 80kg and can travel up to a depth of 20 metres. Bandicoot is time and labour-efficient. It can clean a sewer in 20 minutes that otherwise took 3 to 4 hours to manually clean it.
