China’s Homegrown Jetliner C919 Completes First Commercial Flight

The C919 aircraft, China’s first homegrown jetliner, has completed its first commercial flight on Sunday, flying from Shanghai to Beijing.Operated by China Eastern Airlines, the plane flew as flight MU9191 on Sunday morning, departing Shanghai Hongqiao Airport at around 10:30 am with 128 passengers on board and landing in Beijing Capital Airport about two hours later.Upon touching down, the plane received a water salute to mark this special occasion. The aircraft is scheduled to fly back to Shanghai later on Sunday.The C919 is China's first self-developed trunk jetliner in accordance with international airworthiness standards and owns independent intellectual property rights.The C919 project was launched in 2007. Developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC), the first C919 aircraft rolled off the production line in Shanghai in November 2015. In 2017, the plane accomplished its maiden flight.
