This week, a body of experts who contributed to reports on which the Danish authorities based their assessment condemned the misuse of the report, warning that indiscriminate detentions and forced disappearances prevent any safe returns. Denmark's approach marks a dramatic transformation, the first country to sign the 1951 UN Refugee Convention. In a borderless European Union, the consequence of this tightening of migration regulations is that people facing deportation centers risk fleeing to neighboring countries like Sweden or Germany, leaving, once again, the stability of a home.
