U.S. President Donald Trump formally launched his controversial “Board of Peace” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, unveiling a new global body with a one-billion-dollar membership fee and an ambition that critics say could rival the United Nations. Standing alongside leaders and senior officials from 19 countries, Trump claimed the world is now “richer, safer, and more peaceful” under his leadership, boasting that his administration helped stop or de-escalate conflicts from Gaza and Ukraine to South Asia, Africa, and the Caucasus. He described the board as one of the most consequential institutions ever created, insisting it would work in conjunction with the UN, not replace it. During his Davos address, Trump also publicly called out Spain, accusing Madrid of refusing to meet NATO’s new 5% defence spending target, warning that U.S. security guarantees should not be taken for granted. He further issued a stark warning on Nigeria, alleging terrorist groups are systematically killing Christian communities and claiming his administration took decisive military action to counter extremist violence.
