Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sat down with The Associated Press to discuss foreign policy, as well as her visits to Ukraine and Taiwan. One year has passed since the Democratic former speaker visited Kyiv, at the time making her the highest ranking American official to visit Ukraine after the Russia’s invasion of the country began. Pelosi said that her trip was dangerous, being that they were visiting a serious war zone, but she commended the Ukrainian people for their bravery and resilience, including President Zelenskyy. “We had great protection, but nonetheless, a war, a theater of war, of the courage of the president and greeting us on the street rather than us just meeting him in his office was yet again another symbol of the courage of the people of Ukraine,” Pelosi told the AP. She also said that she hoped the war would have been over by now. “We must win. We must bring this to a positive conclusion for the people of Ukraine and for our country,” she said.
