Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned federal authorities following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good by an ICE agent, saying the incident had deepened divisions and sparked nationwide protests. City and state leaders demanded an independent investigation, calling for Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to participate alongside federal agencies. Frey accused the Trump administration of attempting to predetermine the outcome after the FBI allegedly blocked state investigators from accessing evidence and witnesses. While federal cooperation stalled, local officials said state or local prosecution of the officer remained possible, stressing transparency, accountability, and justice for immigrant communities.
